Mr. João Medina is an experienced consultant, specialized in innovative approaches to urban and regional development.

As a consultant for SPI since 2000, Mr. Medina developed numerous projects either for private sector companies, public sector institutions or international institutions around the world.

Presently based in Portugal, Mr. Medina worked in China (Beijing) in 2007 and in the USA (Washington DC) in 2000. He also presents extensive international experience in different European countries, Brazil and Angola.

Mr. Medina’s projects cover a wide range of areas including the definition of city and regions innovation strategies, smart cities, conception of science parks and business incubators, assessment of climate changes impacts in cities and regions, amongst other.

Holds a Master in Planning and Urban Environment Project, Faculty of Engineering, University of Porto (2006), having performed his dissertation on the subject of the Innovation Regional Strategies, an area in which he presented different papers and communications.

Since 2013, João Medina is an expert of the General-Directorate for Regional and urban Policy of the European Commission (DG Regio) in the urban development area.
